I've just passed my PPL in a PA28-161 and I'll hopefully be looking for a share in a group aircraft.
I've got +50hrs and some groups may have a problem with this, but I'm willing to have any additional training/checkouts etc and pay any increases in insurance etc if this would help?
I live around the Gloucester area so a share around Glos/Kemble would be ideal?
You've made a good start by posting an enquiry on our website. I hope you're checking the shares for sale ads on the website and in Pilot magazine as well.
Most groups with a PA-28 ought not to hold your low hours against you, but they will want to get an instructor to sign you out on their aircraft and may insist on your not flying solo for a while.
As well as monitoring the ads in Pilot, ask at your nearest flying club if there are any farm strips in the area - find out if there's one with a long runway and a group-operated PA-28. Go to the CAA website and using G-INFO and entering PA-28 will get you a listing of all UK-registered PA-28s. You can, if you're willing to spend the time, check out each one for location and if it's group owned. Since the database gives postal addresses, you can write to any PA-28 groups near you and tell them you want to buy a share.
We've an article in the Practical Aviation series on groups in the June issue of Pilot, which I can recommend. - Editor.
Thanks for the advice. I've already been around a couple of clubs asking about shares and I have a couple of leads. Hopefully I'll have something sorted out for the summer.
