Ha you might have been the one in front of us for takeoff then, mine was about 10:45 by the time we got away. I didn't see it as I was doing power checks etc. but my instructor said it was a bit wobbly, it was a Cessna of some variety too! I always fly on saturdays or sundays because of work commitments, for now at least. We were in GBGBA which is a red robin R2100A.
I haven't started air-law just yet but I think that I will be in the next couple of weeks. I'll let you know when I do. I've read an old book but it's out of date so I need the latest one to make sure that I know the current information. Things are moving so fast that I want to be as ready as possible for the theory side of things.
The Donut is the best visual navigation aid in the business. I could see the sun glinting off the roof from quite a way north of Malvern yesterday! If you're coming from the south you can pretty much follow the river too.
Yes they seem to look pretty similar don't they! I think the R2100 series has a larger rudder area, and a full plexi-glass canopy without the overhead section being opaque (spelling?). I really like it, it's nice to have control on a stick, and it's certainly very responsive & quite easy to trim too, but apart from 1hr in a C172 ages ago I don't have anything to judge it against so can't comment that much. You certainly get a great view in the Robin though although it gets chucked about a bit by turbulence, I guess because it's quite a bit lighter than a Warrior or C172.
My flying club also has a DR400 and a 2120 which is the same as I fly currently, just with a little more power. I want to have a go in both at some point before I do my PPL so that I'm not as intimidated by a different type as I would be had I only flown my current one. They've also got a Piper Arrow which looks nice, but it's retractable gear and variable pitch prop, so that is one for a bit later on I think!
Probably was, not many of the yellow variety at Glos, lol. Only excuse I think think of is that being right handed my left hand is not as sensitive, didn't pull back straight and then over compensated.....and not a bril excuse either. But every a/c handles a bit different and each lesson I seem to be on a different one and have to remember which one's the parking brakes dont work on and everyone has a different radio set up too. Drives me mad.
M5's bril for following too.
Might start some weekend lessons once Uni term starts again, depends on the timetable. So whats the dayjob?
Not worth reading any outofdate law books........trust me as just finished a law degree. Also I've heard its worth reading the "Confuser" first and then which ever law book your school recommends. I've got the Thom one.
Had a most enjoyable lesson on turning / banking today, followed by a GPS approach as the weather seperated the sky from the ground. There was just enough gap through the base to see the runway!
My instructor decided to show me a VNE descent from around 4,200ft down to ~800ft QNH, then a side-slip approach to get the Warrior bang on the approach speed at the point of short final.
I said "you've done that before, eh?" lol.
He said i'm doing nicely and just a few pointers for applying rudder on the roll-out. Feel more confident on the radio now too, and he let me do the engine startup alone and came out once we're ready to taxi. Nice for somebody to invest trust in your abilities.
Hi everyone. I have recently started my PPL. I have created a diary online at www.learningtoflydiary.com here I am documenting all my lessons. If you are currently learning to fly get in touch and share your own experiances.
Hi David, I like you have just started my ppl four lessons in, and loving every minute of it. flying again this weekend, doing my second part of straight and level flight. I also enjoy reading about other members in the group who are learning to fly, and the support we receive from each other. I warmly wecome you to the forum
I am glad you had a good lesson Chris, and that you feel more confident on the radio. I find it nerve wracking lol. flying this Saturday, I hope the weather will be ok

Haha - each to their own little strengths and weaknesses - My current weaker points are maintaining balanced flight over a period and coming out of the turn, and strangely skip-reading over single certain points of the checklist?
The human mind is a wonder... well i certainly wonder about mine lol.
Mine is just as bad, I find that I miss things on my check list until my instructor points it out to me. but hopefully I will get there with it. There is just so much to take in lol
As my instructor says - its all part of training to miss things. He is there to make sure they are completed before we move away from that part of the check-list. The main thing when you are in the air is that you spot your errors and automatically correct them (drifting from headings or heights assigned by the instructor etc.).
My first real call on the radio for taxi to the active, started with a push of the PTT and a fit of the giggles?
The second time I nailed it and its firmly there now for each lesson.
People!
Hows it going?!
I have been away for a long time...but am trying to get my PPL exmas finished this summer holidays! Finding it very hard though to get it all done :(
